Fitness videos

You may be wondering, why is she talking about fitness videos? It is because I went to the local public library and got out a video by 'Self' that promised to help me get my 'best butt fast.' Seriously.

I popped that sucker in my DVD player to work out in the comfort of my own home and discovered something pretty quickly - I am in too good of shape. The music was slow; the moves uninspired/lacking energy, and it was way way way too short. The end was all yoga/pilates, which I still find a little silly.

Back in July, I certainly wouldn't have predicted that I would be in pretty good shape now. It might be the judo 3x, lifting 2x, constant random cardio in my apartment, and my 500 situps every morning. (I maintain they improve my performance in clinic b/c I've stopped studying) It might also be all of the practices I mentioned in the last blog I attended up through now.

Or maybe it's Melissa's fault for pushing me through my workouts until I want to throw up, or the judo club for my expectation that I will leave practice with bruises, a broken bone, or at least a sprain - my m-p jt on my left 5th finger is currently sprained.

Last, speaking of injuries - I get to be a fight physician again!! I have the best job in the world.

102,960,000

Now that my computer is back in top form, I've been meaning to comment on this - I finally headed to the podiatrist to get my arch supports replaced. I got my first set when I was about twelve. This inspired me to do some random math about estimating how far I've been in my old arch supports.

I got them when I was 12 and I played 10 seasons of softball, 7 seasons of track, 8 seasons of basketball, 8 semesters of cheerleading, 6 seasons of volleyball, 1 season of cross country, and ran 3 marathons and 2 half marathons in one set of arch supports. As a simple estimate of how much punishment they took, 13 years X 30 miles a week X 50 weeks in the year = 19,500 miles. Or 41,184,000 strides. Or 102,960,000 feet.

The math could go on from here, but I'll spare you it. FYI, orthopedic arch supports are supposed to be replaced every 2-4 years, not every 12.
